What is the difference between AUTO-ON and AUTO-OFF modes?
In AUTO-ON every Internet stream of data recognized as a video or audio stream that is supported by WM Recorder will be saved to your computer.
In AUTO-OFF mode the recognized streams are not saved but only their names listed in the VIEW/Captured Streams window. You can select those that you want to record. This avoids the saving of commercial advertisements or other unwanted contents.
Can I schedule my recordings?
Yes. WM Recorder can schedule recordings for Flash (flv) or Windows Media (wmv, wma) formats. You can use the WM Recorder scheduler or Windows scheduler.
Can I record multiple streams simultaneously?
Yes. WM Recorder allows up to 200 entries to be queued up for recording. The actual number of simultaneous recordings depends on your connection bandwidth. A cable connection usually supports 10 to 20 simultaneous connections. For example, YouTube videos are streamed at approx. 500 kbps. With a cable connection of 10 Mps bandwidth you can record 20 videos simultaneously. Some
web site don’t allow more than two simultaneous downloads.
Can I record encrypted streams?
No. Movie videos from sites like Netflix and Hulu and webinars are usually encrypted. You can use the screen capture program WM Capture.
How can I record without making a connection to the remote site?
Use the program LOOPBACK included in WM Recorder package (for Flash streams only). LOOPBACK utilizes the same connection as your browser.
How can I record secure Flash videos?
Secured Flash videos are videos that are not encrypted but have some security tokens that prevent downloads from the remote site. Use the program LOOPBACK included in WM Recorder package.
Can I record pay-per-view movies or videos?
If Pay-per-view content uses encryption the videos cannot be recorded. You can use the screen capture program WM Capture.
How do I convert my recordings to other formats like MP3?
WM Recorder includes the WM Converter, which can convert Video and Audio files to many different formats. When recording is finished highlight one or more files in the recording window and select Convert.
Can I burn my recordings to a DVD?
WM Converter can produce DVD ISO files which can be burned with any DVD burning software.
The following apply to Windows Media Player broadcasts (wmv or wma)
How does the Compress Time feature work?
Example 1: You're playing a long video and want to record just portions of it. For example, let's say you stop the video after the first 10 minutes and then advance the seek bar to the next point at 25 minutes. When the file is played back Windows Media will see a time gap of 15 minutes and it will freeze the picture and sound during all this time. Compressing the time will eliminate this gap.
Example 2: You're recording a stream that has multiple interruptions (gaps) where no data is coming (do not confuse this with buffering time). The compress time will eliminate the wasted time and cut off the gaps.
What does the Seekable option do?
The Seekable option enables the seek bar for a recorded file so you can move forward or backward through the file. However, there are instances when a file cannot be made seekable during recording even if this option is enabled. In this case, you should use the Reprocess option with the Seekable flag enabled.
The opposite is when you record a file that was seekable but you want to make it non-seekable. This may force your audience to see the entire clip. In this case, you can Reprocess the file with the seekable flag off.
What happens if the site I'm trying to record from is busy?
If this happens, WM Recorder will try to reconnect at 10 second intervals.
