Reroute video and audio - watch video

The purpose of rerouting is to be able to capture video from the computer screen while watching another video on the same screen and/or capturing an audio stream while playing another audio stream. Windows 10 and 11 allows now audio rerouting such that one audio player (ex. web browser) plays audio through the speaker while another audio player (ex. another browser or app) plays audio through the headphones. However, Windows does not allow overlapped video windows to have individual data streams. WM Capture achieve this using the Background mode.

To reroute video and audio WM Capture requires the Chrome Canary browser and the Background mode. A pair of headphones should be connected to the computer. Below are a few guides when rerouting audio and video:

·       Running two video windows simultaneously puts some burden on your CPU especially for large window sizes and lower speed computers. This could cause out of sync audio, chopped video or even failure to record. Try to lower the windows sizes as much as possible and always use the H264/MP4 video format.

·       Run ‘Setup audio devices’ any time you change or remove the silent audio source.

·       Run ‘Set WM Capture/Canary speaker’ when unplugging the silent audio and use the Canary browser for recording.

·       If the YouTube video played when rerouting does not automatically start redo the rerouting using the Option menu

·       Instead of a silent device (headphones) you can try using the VB-Cable as shown in our Update-10003.
