Windows 11 Volume Mixer Accessing
the Sound Volume Mixer 1. Windows
11 - Using the speaker icon: Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar
notification area and select "Volume Mixer". 2. Windows
11 - using the Settings app: Press the Windows key + I, then navigate to
System > Sound > Volume Mixer. 3. Windows
10 - using the Settings app: Press the Windows key + I, then navigate to
System > Sound > App volume and device preferences. Choosing
Output Default Audio Device · Under
the System, “Output device" section, click the arrow to see a list of
available audio devices. · Click
the device you want to use (e.g., speakers, headphones). · If
you have Bluetooth devices, you might need to select "Bluetooth &
Devices" and then choose your device. · The usual
name for Windows audible device (the speaker) is Speaker. A
confusing aspect of Windows 11/10 audio is that certain USB and Bluetooth headphones
claim control of the audio system by designating themselves as the Default
audio device. When this happens, the speakers produce no sound. Therefore,
it is important to verify the Output device in the Volume Mixer using one of
the methods mentioned above whenever you plug a new device or install a new
application. Note: If
the audio device assigned to WM Capture is an audible device (speaker) a beep
should be heard when it starts up. If this beep is not heard either the
system audio is set to a silent device (headphones or VB-Audio) or WM Capture
is set to a silent device. Choosing
the Audio Played by Apps · App
names only appear under the Apps section if the app is open and is playing or
using audio (for instance, the Chrome browser will not be displayed here
unless it is open to a site that plays audio, such as YouTube). · Under
the app name click the arrow and select the device to use (e.g., speakers,
headphones). Apps can play audio that is different than the default audio.
For example, the Edge browser can play a movie audio through the speaker and
another browser (Chrome) can play and silently record an audio from Spotify
through headphones. · WM
Capture video/audio recorder app will always appear here when opened whether
it is minimized or visible. VB-Audio
Virtual Cable app (https://vb-audio.com) · This
app can be installed on your computer and appears on the Volume Mixer as an
audio device · You can redirect the audio of a browser (for
example Chrome) to VB-Audio and silently record an audio while playing
another video/audio on your Edge browser. ·
Use WM Capture Background mode to hide the video and
VB-Audio to silence the audio and record video/audio with the Chrome browser
while using the computer video/audio for something else |
