Tips for recording
videos played on 4K monitors --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: the statements below do not apply to the D3D
recording mode introduced in WM Capture version 10.12 and later. Using D3D,
you can record movies and games at HD, 2K, and 4K resolutions with higher
frame rates of 30, 60, and up to 100 fps. Apart from the Scheduler, all the
features described here pertain only to the Screen Capture mode and are not
applicable to the D3D mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: as of June 2025, the Google Chrome
Canary browser will no longer work as a second WM Capture browser on Windows
11. We're trying to deal with this unexpected Google blunder in a future WM
Capture version. The information below can only be used if the Chrome Canary
browser is fully operational (computers using Windows 10 or the Firefox
browser). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Some of the features outlined below
are only accessible when the Background recording mode is activated in WM
Capture. Surprisingly, the latest Windows 11 has disabled all the features
required to operate this mode. However, Windows 10 and other versions of
Windows continue to support the Background mode with all its available
advantages (including the one mentioned here). 1. Use the
Background mode from WM Capture Options, Switch to
Background mode. If you are not familiar with the Background mode,
check the Background mode. 2. Set up
the Video Format MP4 in Setting, Video Bitrate 8000
kbps and Frame rate 30 fps. 3. If your
4K monitor is an external monitor, we recommend setting this monitor
as Monitor #1, in other words, Monitor #1 is the monitor where WM Capture
opens. Check Using a second monitor. 4. Set up your
Display resolution to 2560x1440. To do this, right-click the Desktop,
click Display settings, then, under Display resolution click
the drop down arrow and select 2560x1440. Notes: a) recording
high quality videos larger than HD size (1920x1080) require a higher quality
laptop or desktop (for a minimum, an i7 / 4-core, Windows 10, or Windows 11).
Otherwise, videos larger than 2K will be recorded at lower fps. b) using the
screen capture mode instead of the Background mode will result in lower fps
when recording 2K or larger size videos. c) currently,
most streaming movies are broadcasted as full HD videos (1920x1080 / 60 fps)
not 4K or 2K. This makes it unnecessary to record a 4K or a 2K screen. You
can follow the procedure shown above to set up your display as 1920x1080
resolution. WM Capture will record the full screen at 60 fps. d) lower the
resolution of your display. Right-click your desktop, click Display
resolution to open Windows settings. Under Display resolution click
the arrow and select 1920x1080. |
