one video while recording another WM
Capture 10 offers a series of advanced features that enable audio and video
routing such that one video can be recorded without being visible with no
perceived sound while another is played with fully enabled audio and video.
These features allow recording hidden windows (Background mode), setting up a
second browser (in this case the Google Chrome Canary browser) and setting up
Windows audio system. Below
is a Windows 11 example showing the Volume mixer where the Chrome browser is
set to output its audio to the System Default while the Canary browser
outputs its audio to the headphones port. The set up instructions shown here
are the same for Windows 10.
Set up using headphones as second audio driver (Windows
11, Screen Capture CAP or D3D modes) WM Capture
uses the 'Audio reroute' dialog to reroute audio for WM Capture itself, and a
second media player like the Google Chrome Canary browser. Windows saves
these settings, so this process only needs to be done once. To use this
feature, connect a pair of wired headphones to your computer (can be USB or
Bluetooth) to create an additional Windows audio device, or use the VB-Audio
app. In WM
Capture, go to Options > Reroute audio/video The Audio
reroute dialog opens, listing all available, enabled, and ready audio
playback devices on your system. Use this dialog to reroute WM Capture and a
second audio player to a chosen audio device only (this dialog does not
assign audio devices to other Windows apps). The selected device can be
silent (like Headphone) or audible (like Speaker). The dialog also displays
the current audio device assigned to WM Capture and the name of the second
player (browser). 1. Set up the audible player's audio device
(if needed) Click Windows
Sound and ensure the Default device is the one you want, such as Speaker
(Realtek (R) Audio) for audible output. This device will play the audio while
WM Capture records the silent audio. This selected Default device will only
be assigned to the apps that use the Default device. 2. Choose the silent audio device from the
list (headphones) and click Reroute. If everything
went fine, the audio rerouting is now finished. To reset
audio: 1. If you had set a silent audio device for WM
Capture and the silent player, you can switch them back to audible output by
reopening the Audio reroute dialog and repeat the steps above selecting the
audible device (e.g., Speaker) for both WM Capture and the second player. 2. To revert all Windows audio to the default
device, open the Audio reroute dialog, click on Apps Volume, and then in the
System > Sound > Volume mixer window that appears, press the Reset
button. 3. To choose a default audio device (such as
Speakers or Headphones), open the Audio reroute dialog, click on Windows
Sound, pick the audio device, and then click Default. Keep in mind that this
sets the default device only for applications that use the Default device.
Applications configured as described above or set manually will remain
unchanged. Set up using headphones as second audio driver (Windows
10, using the Background mode - BCK) 1.
Plug a
pair of USB or Bluetooth headphones (silent device) to your
computer (wired headphones no longer work with Windows 10 upgrade June 2025). 2.
Open
the Chrome browser and play a video with sound (this tells Windows,
Chrome is using audio). Stop playing video 3.
Open WM
Capture in Background mode, click the Volume bar (optional,
tells Windows WM Capture is using audio) 4.
From
WM Capture Options, open Google Canary browser and play a video
with sound (tells Windows Canary is using audio). Stop playing video 5.
Right
click the speaker icon on the taskbar, click Open volume mixer. You
should see these apps listed there (Google Chrome Canary follows the Google
Chrome and it is also called Google Chrome) (You
can also use the steps above instead of opening the Windows 10 volume mixer) 6.
Click
WM Capture and select the silent device name, click Chrome Canary and select the same 7.
In the
Canary browser, open the video you want to record 8.
In WM
Capture Mark the video, click Record, click Hide (optional).
Video image is captured from the Canary browser hidden, audio is captured
from the headphone output 9.
While
video is recording play anything you want with the Chrome browser (optional)
Use Picture in Picture to PIP the recording video image Keep in mind
that playing and recording at the same time may overload your CPU. Use the
resizer option of WM Capture to make the window sizes as small as possible
(1280x720). NOTE: Due to recent changes of the Google Chrome browser,
WM Capture is unable to activate the Background mode on Windows 11 when using
the Chrome Canary browser. Currently, the details above are applicable only
for computers using Windows 10 or when using the Firefox browser on Windows
11.

Any
web browser can be used as the playback and recording browser. The only
requirement is that the recording browser must have disabled the graphics
acceleration (which is necessary anyway to record streaming movies) 2.
Background
recording mode must be used in WM Capture otherwise the recording window
cannot be hidden 3. While recording one video at the same time playing
another video your CPU may be overloaded, especially if for large video
windows. (Windows 11 does better than Windows 10 on this). Watch your total
